BULLETIN 17 June 1 pm
Good afternoon. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# ActionSA says a bloated coalition cabinet is the first in a litany of betrayals to expect
# The MK Party will support ATM’s case in the Electoral Court
# And, cricket: Bangladesh are second in T20 World Cup Group D behind South Africa
# ActionSA has noted reports suggesting that the ANC and DA government of national unity could be planning to expand the size of an already bloated cabinet. ActionSA’s Samkelo Mgobozi says with 30 serving ministers and 36 deputy ministers, costing taxpayers over 146-million-rand annually in salaries alone, president Cyril Ramaphosa’s previous promise to downsize the cabinet has clearly amounted to no real intention:
# The MK Party says it will participate in the case lodged by the ATM in the Electoral Court. The MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela says the party is calling on people to demand to know what happened to their votes, because they have the right to know. Ndhlela says they will therefore at the right time call on people to demonstrate their dissatisfaction against all these injustices, peaceful in Parliament, until their grievances have been addressed:
# The ANC Women’s League has applauded and take pride in the preservation and acknowledgment of women’s capacity to lead in the National Assembly, the National Council of Provinces and provincial legislatures. The ANC Women’s League Secretary-General, Nokuthula Nqaba says this recounting of the importance of women leadership and gender parity may seem like a qualitative exercise, but it has quantitative and substantial benefits for the progression of the society and country. Nqaba is calling for the adherence to gender parity in the appointment of members of the executive.
# Cricket: Bangladesh qualified for the Super Eights of the T20 World Cup after a 21-run victory over Nepal. Bangladesh struggled with the bat on a tricky surface at Arnos Vale in Kingston, making 106 all out in 19 overs and three balls. But then a devastating spell of four for seven from pace bowler Tanzim Hasan Sakib had Nepal’s reply in big trouble. Bangladesh finished second in Group D behind South Africa, and will join Afghanistan, India and Australia in Group 1 of the Super Eights.
# And, the Tony Awards for excellence in Broadway theatre took place at New York City’s Lincoln Centre yesterday. Shaina Taub won best score and best book of a musical for Suffs, the story of the suffragette movement. Best revival of a musical went to Merrily We Roll Along, with Daniel Radcliffe picking up best featured actor, and Jonathan Groff best lead actor in a musical. David Adjmi’s play Stereophonic, about a 70s-era rock band making an album, took the Tony for best play and best direction for Daniel Aukin.
Stay tuned for more news………….
