# Justice and Constitutional Development minister Ronald Lamola has announced that South Africa has approved 50-million-rand to support the people of Gaza. He led a South African delegation to the Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response to Gaza conference in Jordan. Lamola says South Africa also supports the efforts of the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, to hold accountable persons responsible for the war in Gaza:
# The City of Tshwane is seeking to revive decommissioned power stations. The long-redundant Rooiwal and Pretoria West power stations are listed among these stations with plans showing promising progress. Private sector involvement is anticipated through a possible 40-year lease agreement, marking a significant step towards reactivating these plants. Mayoral committee member for Utilities Themba Fosi says operations could resume next month:
# Western Cape dam levels have risen following the first winter rains last week. The latest figures show the six major dams are at a combined 65.1-percent of total storage, up from 58.9-percent the previous week. Theewaterskloof, which accounts for more than 50-percent of the province’s total dam capacity, is at 61.5-percent. The province’s second biggest dam, Voëlvlei, is at 55-percent capacity.
# Cricket: South Africa has qualified for the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup after Sri Lanka’s match against Nepal in Florida was abandoned without a ball being bowled because of rain. With three wins out of three matches, the Proteas lead Group D with six points, while Bangladesh and the Netherlands have two points each from two games. South Africa’s final group game is against Nepal in Kingstown on Saturday.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-56-cents and the euro at 19-rand-95-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-68-cents and Bitcoin trades at 67-thousand-481-dollars-47-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-314-dollars-4-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 82-dollars-57-cents a barrel.
# And finally: A Walter Sisulu University third-year Bachelor of Computer Science student has developed a campus navigation application. Sibulele Ngwane says the primary goal of Campus Compass is to address common navigation challenges across university buildings, particularly for new students getting lost or arriving late for lectures to ease their anxiety and stress. He says the application is more than just a navigation tool, it represents a commitment to enhancing the academic journey for everyone at WSU.
