This followed after president Cyril Ramaphosa announced plans for a government of national unity, inviting the DA, the EFF, the IFP, and smaller parties. The agreement will include targets for economic growth, inclusion, and service delivery. The rand found support in a weak dollar, hovering close to an eight-week low ahead of a crucial US jobs report.

# Airports Company South Africa says operations at Cape Town International Airport are back to normal following last night’s bomb scare. The police’s bomb squad was deployed shortly after the crew of a departing FlySafair flight to OR Tambo International Airport was alerted to a possible security threat aboard the aircraft. Passengers and crew were taken off the flight for a sweep to be done. ACSA’s Ntokozo Mazibuko says two people have been arrested:

After an oversight visit, Human Settlements minister Mmamoloko Kubayi asked for the urgent relocation of displaced families to temporary emergency accommodation. She echoed calls for public vigilance during heavy rains. Eastern Cape premier Oscar Mabuyane assured residents government is marshalling resources to improve the dire situation, and urged the private sector to assist flood victims.
# Rugby: Former Stormers player Oli Kebble hopes for victory over his old team in tomorrow’s United Rugby Championship quarterfinal before his stint at Glasgow Warriors comes to an end. The prop played 101 matches for the Scottish team since joining them in 2017, and also played 11 Tests for his adopted country. Thirty-one-year-old Kebble hasn’t revealed yet where he plans to go next season, just saying he’s got to make a decision soon. He hopes to leave the Warriors with some silverware.
