# The DA is reportedly exploring two options as coalition talks continue. With the ANC only managing to get 40-percent of the vote and the DA 21.76-percent, the parties could establish a coalition for a joint majority of over 60-percent. The DA has formed a coalition negotiating team, which includes former party leaders Helen Zille and Tony Leon. According to News24, several sources in the DA say the party is exploring forming a coalition government with the ANC that will include cabinet posts, or the DA takes the most senior positions in Parliament.
Meanwhile, Build One South Africa says its leader, Mmusi Maimane, and deputy leader Nobuntu Hlazo-Webster, will represent the party in the National Assembly. With its one seat secured in the Gauteng Legislature, the party will be represented by Ayanda Allie. Bosa’s Roger Solomons says all three candidates are under the age of 45 and possess a broad range of skills and a depth of experience across many sectors:
# The South African Geographic Names Council is reviewing 58 new applications for geographical name changes across the country, including towns, villages, rivers, and roads. Since its inception, the council has renamed one-thousand-505 locations, mainly in KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape, despite public pushback and criticism that these efforts overlook pressing issues. Recent changes include Ladysmith in KZN to uMnambithi and Kirkwood in the Eastern Cape to Nqweba.
# Soccer: Real Madrid has signed French forward Kylian Mbappé on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain. The 25-year-old, who made 308 appearances for PSG and scored 256 goals, has signed a five-year contract. Mbappé says he is happy and proud to join the club of his dreams. The signing follows Madrid’s win against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley last Saturday, securing a record-extending 15th Champions League title.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-69-cents and the euro at 20-rand-35-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-91-cents and Bitcoin trades at 69-thousand-107-dollars-92-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-336-dollars-5-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 77-dollars-4-cents a barrel.
# And finally: ActionSA says it recognises substance use disorder as a disease, a human tragedy that unfolds in communities every day. With June being Drug Awareness Month, the party is calling for action to address the epidemic of substance abuse and the trafficking of drugs by emboldened cartels. ActionSA’s Dereleen James says all stakeholders need to work together to build a safer, healthier, and more compassionate society, through the comprehensive implementation of the National Drug Masterplan:
