Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The DA is concerned about how long the impeachment process could take
# Marco Rubio says Cuba is a national threat to the US and is doubtful of diplomacy
# And soccer: Hugo Broos names a 32-man preliminary Bafana Bafana squad for the World Cup squad
# The DA has expressed concern at how long the procedural process paving the way for the impeachment committee to begin its work could take. A subcommittee believes it could take months for the operational road map and the amendment of rules to be finalised before the impeachment committee can formally process the evidence against president Cyril Ramaphosa. The DA’s George Michalakis says the public wants to see the process completed:
Meanwhile, the MK Party says it is frustrated by the legal advice from the subcommittee. They will consider an independent panel report, which suggests Ramaphosa may have a case to answer in connection with the burglary at his farm, Phala Phala. The MK Party’s Mzwanele Manyi says Parliament must seek a second legal opinion:
# FlySafair maintains its overbooking model is both lawful and commonly applied in the global aviation industry. The National Consumer Commission has referred the airline to the National Consumer Tribunal for overbooking flights. This follows findings that the low-cost carrier may have contravened sections of the Consumer Protection Act. FlySafair says it is confident that, on a full consideration of the facts, the legal framework and prevailing industry practice, it will be demonstrated that it has acted lawfully, transparently and with careful regard to the rights of consumers.
Moving abroad:
# US secretary of State Marco Rubio says Cuba has been a national security threat for years because of its ties to American adversaries. The US has announced criminal charges against former Cuban leader Raúl Castro. President Donald Trump has previously said he wants regime change on the island, which has been ruled by a communist government since 1959. Rubio says he is doubtful a diplomatic resolution can be reached with Cuba’s current government:
# Soccer: Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has announced a 32-man preliminary squad for the upcoming World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico. There are seven overseas-based players in the squad, including Lyle Foster and Olwethu Makhanya. Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates have nine players each. Bradley Cross and Olwethu Makhanye are among the fresh faces selected. Broos will announce the final squad on Wednesday. South Africa is in Group A alongside co-hosts Mexico, South Korea and the Czech Republic.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-47-cents and the euro at 19-rand-12-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-10-cents and Bitcoin trades at 77-thousand-271-dollars.
