In this bulletin:
# Julius Malema accuses the Intelligence committee of sabotage
# ActionSA will announce its Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate today
# And Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is sentenced to four years in prison
# EFF leader Julius Malema has accused the Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence of deliberately sabotaging the Ad Hoc Committee probing KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s allegations. Malema said the Inspector-General of Intelligence, Imtiaz Fazel, still awaits direction while public submissions remain unexamined. He raised concerns that the committee has yet to meet with the evidence leader, Norman Arendse, stressing the lack of clarity as a deliberate attempt to stall the inquiry’s progress:
Meanwhile, Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee evidence leader, Norman Arendse, says several public submissions had been received ahead of hearing evidence from Mkhwanazi. Arendse told the committee that the Intelligence Inspector-General had first sought direction from the Joint Standing Committee before meeting the ad hoc committee:
# ActionSA will reveal the party’s mayoral candidate for the City of Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, today, ahead of the 2026 local government elections. In a recent visit to the city, leader Herman Mashaba highlighted concerns over crime, corruption, and failing basic services. He said the candidate will tackle lawlessness and restore services. He emphasised that Ekurhuleni needs a leader who will reclaim the city from criminals and create the conditions for growth and jobs.
# Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been sentenced to four years in prison, fined over eight-million-rand, and given five years of supervised release. A New York jury acquitted him of racketeering and sex trafficking but convicted him on two counts of transporting women for prostitution. US District Judge Arun Subramanian awarded credit for time already served since September 2024. Judge Subramanian said the sentence serves as a deterrent and sends a strong message that violence against women must be met with real accountability.
# And finally, sports news:
# Golf: The South African challengers at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews in Scotland had a good day on Friday. Richard Sterne shares the lead in the prestigious DP World Tour event on 12 under par alongside Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre. Fellow South African Louis Oosthuizen is just one shot behind them, while Herman Loubser is four shots off the lead. Both Sterne and Oosthuizen are bidding to become only the second players in history to win both the Alfred Dunhill Championship and Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Fellow South African Branden Grace is to date the only player to have achieved this.
# And soccer: Mikel Arteta says Arsenal have to find a new level to win major trophies as he prepares to take charge of the Gunners for the 300th time. Arsenal could go top of the Premier League, for a couple of hours at least, if they beat West Ham at the Emirates today, before current leaders Liverpool face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Arteta brings up his triple century with an impressive win rate of 58-percent, yet he cannot match the trophy hauls of predecessors such as Arsene Wenger and George Graham.
