# The MK Party says all its members including former president Jacob Zuma are still members of the ANC. The MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela says they will continue to use any space still available inside the ANC to expose what they call the agents of white monopoly capital who want to take the country back to apartheid. Ndhlela says they will be defeated:
# Cosatu has congratulated Refiloe Mtsweni-Tsipane after her election as the new chairperson of the National Council of Provinces. The federation also salutes the new chief whip Kenny Mmoiemang. Cosatu’s Matthew Parks says they are heartened by the ANC’s steadfast belief in affirming women in key leadership positions in Parliament and across the provincial legislatures:
# The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union says young people are confronted with high levels of unemployment, poverty and violence. Sadtu general secretary, Mugwena Maluleke, says even though some young people have taken advantage of education opportunities and studied in higher education institutions, their certificates have not opened the doors of work. Maluleke says they have few or no resources to create job opportunities for themselves.
# Golf: Bryson DeChambeau captured his second US Open title, edging Rory McIlroy by one stroke in a dramatic duel at Pinehurst. The 30-year-old American, who also won the 2020 US Open, fired a one-over-par 71 to finish on six-under-par 274, while the Northern Irishman McIlroy shot 69 to stand on 275 after 72 holes. It is the fourth time McIlroy has finished second at a major. DeChambeau jumped for joy when his victory was confirmed.
# And, Australia’s Adelaide Zoo has been offered a new pair of giant pandas in a swap for the popular duo who have been at the zoo for the past 15 years. Chinese premier Li Qiang made the announcement at the zoo, thanking South Australia for looking after Wang Wang and Fu Ni so well. The only giant pandas in the southern hemisphere have been at the zoo since 2009, but an extended loan deal ends in November.
