# A political analyst says the ANC must get real buy-in from alliance partners
# The UN’s Palestinian agency accuses Israel of hampering aid deliveries to Gaza
# And rugby: Nine Springboks are going to miss the Wales and first Ireland Test
# The rapidity of the proposed government of national unity deal with the ANC, DA, and IFP, will require real buy-in from the ANC’s alliance partners, or it may only reflect an elite agreement which may be unstable in the future. This is according to political analyst Daniel Silke. The ANC has negotiated with around 17 political parties as it seeks to form a new government. Silke says without a clear policy agenda, the government of national unity is just a mechanism to provide initial stability:
# ActionSA has denounces Eskom’s petition to the Supreme Court of Appeal, seeking to maintain rolling blackouts affecting the vulnerable. In a previous court ruling, a North Gauteng High Court exempted hospitals, schools, and police stations from blackouts. Communication director, Samkelo Mgobozi, claims Eskom’s petition is a tactic to mislead voters and avoid responsibility. He says ActionSA will oppose the application, ensuring protection for critical institutions:
# The National Student Financial Aid Scheme has parted ways with its acting CEO, Masile Ramorwesi, by mutual agreement. Ramorwesi was facing internal charges following an investigation by Werksmans Attorneys, who found the appointment of four companies to provide payment services to students was conducted in conflict of interest. The scheme’s spokesperson, Ishmael Mnisi, says as the basis of this mutual agreement, Ramorwesi remains available until the 31st of next month.
# The United Nations relief agency for Palestinians has accused Israel of frequently preventing it from delivering aid and hampering its operations in Gaza. The US-run floating pier has become Gaza’s sole entry point for most aid other than fuel after Israeli forces seized control of the Rafah crossing early last month. The US military has this week overseen the delivery of one-thousand-573 metric tonnes of aid to date via the pier. The agency, the largest aid organisation operating in Gaza, says over two-million people desperately need aid.
# Rugby: Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has confirmed that nine players will be missing for their one-off Test against Wales and the first of the two Tests against Ireland due to injuries. They include international regulars Steven Kitshoff, Lood de Jager, Canan Moodie, Damian Willemse, and Kurt-Lee Arendse. Erasmus says winger Cheslin Kolbe is touch and go for the Wales Test:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-43-cents and the euro at 19-rand-77-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-47-cents and Bitcoin trades at 66-thousand-945-dollars-63-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-312-dollars-50-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 82-dollars-42-cents a barrel.
