# And golf: Scottie Scheffler makes history again
# Analysts warn that while the idea of a government of national unity is good in principle, it may not bring stability. The ANC is currently meeting with political parties represented in the National Assembly, to discuss the proposal and possibly secure president Cyril Ramaphosa’s re-election. Political analyst Ralph Mathekga says parties agreeing to a government of national unity does not mean their differences cease to exist. He adds what will matter are areas they can unite around.
Meanwhile, ActionSA has finalised its national and provincial lists in the final approach to impending inaugural sittings of the National Assembly and provincial legislatures. The party has secured six seats in Parliament, with Eastern Cape chairperson, Athol Trollip, leading its caucus in the National Assembly. ActionSA’s national chairperson, Michael Beaumont, says they have resolved to send the strongest possible delegation that must punch above its weight division in Parliament:
# Civil rights organisation AfriForum has brought an urgent application in the High Court in Pretoria against the National Energy Regulator. The application seeks to prevent NERSA from considering municipalities’ applications for electricity tariff increases from 1 July without the required cost studies. AfriForum’s Morné Mostert says cost studies outline what tariffs should be to properly deliver services and maintain networks:
# South Korea plans to resume propaganda broadcasts against North Korea for the first time in six years. This is in response to Pyongyang’s campaign of sending rubbish-filled balloons across the border. Over 300 North Korean balloons were detected over the weekend, with around 80 landing in the South carrying scrap paper and plastic sheets. Pyongyang considers the loudspeaker propaganda broadcasts an act of war and has in the past threatened to blow them up.
# Golf: World number one Scottie Scheffler has become just the second player after Tiger Woods to win the Players Championship, Masters, and Memorial in the same year. The 27-year-old American ended with a final round two-over 74 to win the PGA Tour’s Memorial Tournament by one stroke, capturing his fifth title of the season. American Collin Morikawa finished second ahead of Canada’s Adam Hadwin. Scheffler says Muirfield Village is always a tough place to play:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-86-cents and the euro at 20-rand-30-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-99-cents and Bitcoin trades at 69-thousand-455-dollars-30-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-293-dollars-95-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 79-dollars-90-cents a barrel.
