# Parliament says it is fully prepared, and all necessary arrangements have been made, for establishing the new National Assembly. This comes after the Electoral Commission declared the general election results yesterday evening. This paves the way for the seventh administration, which will lead South Africa for the next five years. Parliament’s spokesperson, Moloto Mothapo, says according to the Constitution, the first sitting of the National Assembly must occur no more than 14 days after the election results are declared:
Meanwhile Defend our Democracy says preliminary reports from its Election Watch observer campaign indicate the elections were held in a manner that can broadly be described as free and fair. The campaign, made up of several civil society groups, saw over one-thousand observers monitoring the elections in all nine provinces. Defend Our Democracy chairperson, Moss Ntlha, says they are satisfied that the overall integrity of the elections has been maintained:
# Limpopo police are investigating a case of attempted murder after a five-year-old boy was struck by a stray bullet in Matswale Location in Musina. A bullet penetrated the roof of the boy’s family home just after midnight on Saturday. Police spokesperson, Malesela Ledwaba, says according to preliminary investigations, the bullet is believed to have been fired from an unknown location:
# Chile has joined a coalition of countries backing South Africa in its genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice. The court is currently considering South Africa’s case, but in the interim has ordered Israel to do everything it can to prevent acts of genocide during its war against Hamas. Chilean president Gabriel Boric says his country will never stop feeling outraged over the indiscriminate and disproportionate actions against innocent civilians, especially Palestinian women and children, carried out by the Israeli Defence Force in Gaza.
# Soccer: French striker Kylian Mbappé is set to join Real Madrid as a free agent, with an announcement expected soon. The 25-year-old announced in May that he would leave Paris St-Germain at the end of the season. Mbappé, who scored 256 goals in 308 appearances for PSG, is set to sign a five-year contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, earning around 305-million-rand a season. The La Liga transfer window opens on the first of July.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-82-cents and the euro at 20-rand-44-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-98-cents and Bitcoin trades at 69-thousand-and-2-dollars-5-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-322-dollars-5-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 80-dollars-89-cents a barrel.
