# The Eastern Cape government has noted the report released by the South African Human Rights Commission which raises concern about child malnutrition and the right to food. The  provincial government says it has been implementing various policy interventions and strategies towards addressing the triple challenges of poverty, inequality and unemployment. Spokesperson Khuselwa Rantjie says this includes addressing the concerning plight of child malnutrition in areas of the province:

# The Freedom Front Plus is today kicking off its 2024 election campaign in Goodwood, Cape Town. The party is unveiling its election campaign theme. Their primary focus is urging voters to register and participate in the upcoming elections. The FF Plus aims to highlight the damage caused by the ANC’s nearly 30-years in power and encourages active participation in the political landscape. Party leader Pieter Groenewald says preliminary polls suggest a decline in ANC support and a positive response to the multi-party charter, which includes the FF Plus.

# The World Health Organisation says 12 children with cancer or other blood disorders have been evacuated, with their companions, from the Gaza Strip in the occupied Palestinian territory. They have been taken to Egypt and Jordan so their treatment can continue safely. More children are expected to be evacuated for cancer treatment as part of the initiative. The WHO has welcomed the evacuations and emphasizes that sustained, orderly, unimpeded and safe medical evacuations of critically wounded and sick patients into and via Egypt through the Rafah Border Crossing are essential.

# Cricket: The final three World Cup group matches are taking place today, with only one having an impact on the semifinals. Australia, who has already qualified, is playing Bangladesh now, while Pakistan has to beat England later today to have a chance at qualifying. Tomorrow, hosts India, who is top of the standings, plays Netherlands, who is going home afterwards. English batter Dawid Malan says although the defending champions didn’t survive the group stage, he is satisfied with his own batting performance:

# And finally: Africa’s largest outdoor cannabis-growing facility in Lesotho will be auctioned on the 22nd of this month.
