BULLETIN 2 June 10 am
Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The UDM says the Election Commission blaming the unemployed is unacceptable
# Two Israeli ministers threaten to quit over the Gaza ceasefire proposal
# And motorsport: Brad Binder starts in the 13th position at the Italian MotoGP
# The United Democratic Movement urges the Electoral Commission to address the mishandling of vote recounts in Nelson Mandela Bay, in the Eastern Cape. The party criticised the IEC’s failure to correct errors in ballot capture and fulfil promises for recounts. They argue this negligence undermines electoral transparency and integrity. UDM’s secretary general Yongama Zigebe calls for immediate action to ensure fairness in the electoral process:
# The MK Party says a curious but deeply problematic narrative that is emerging is that the party was organised along tribal lines. Jacob Zuma’s party has had a strong showing in the elections, especially in KwaZulu-Natal, winning 45.35-percent of the votes compared to the IFP’s 18.07-percent in second place. MK’s deputy secretary-general, Arthur Zwane, says the deeply disrespectful and insulting perspective not only undermines the political agency of the Zulu people but also dismisses their legitimate political choices as mere tribal affiliations:
# Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says people are more likely to find a job in the city, which is why they are determined to do much more to grow the economy. The city has the lowest unemployment rate and has added over 300-thousand jobs since the start of this municipal term. For 2024/2025, Cape Town’s social package compares favourably to other cities on all the main pro-poor criteria, including the widest rebate and lifeline electricity criteria for pensioners. Hill-Lewis says the city has an unrivalled pro-poor agenda.
# Two Israeli ministers have threatened to quit and collapse the governing coalition if prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu agrees to a Gaza ceasefire proposal. The three-part proposal on the table would begin with a six-week ceasefire in which the Israel Defence Forces would withdraw from Gaza. The deal would eventually lead to the release of all hostages, a permanent ceasefire, and a major reconstruction plan for Gaza. Finance minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir say they are opposed to striking any deal before Hamas is destroyed.
# And motorsport: South African Brad Binder will start the Italian Moto Grand Prix in 13th position on his KTM today. Spain’s Jorge Martin of Ducati-Pramac claimed pole position at the Mugello circuit. The world championship leader Martin finished just ahead of reigning double world champion Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati. The Spaniard Maverick Vinales of Aprilia was third and his compatriot Marc Marquez, now with Ducati-Gresini, was fourth. Bagnaia has been relegated back three places on the starting grid after being penalised for hindering Alex Marquez of Ducati-Gresini during qualifying practice.
