# The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure says law enforcement agencies will respond to criminality swiftly, proportionately, and decisively within the confines of the law. Security has stepped ahead of planned anti-immigration demonstrations across the country today. Natjoints chairperson, Tebello Mosikili, says contingency plans have been tested, adding that the Air Wing would provide aerial surveillance and operational support wherever required. She warned those who intend to break the law that they should not test the resolve of the State:
Meanwhile, the IFP is calling on people who will be participating in today’s nationwide protests to exercise their constitutional right to protest peacefully, responsibly, and within the bounds of the law. Police have warned that criminality, intimidation, incitement to violence and the destruction of property will not be tolerated. IFP national spokesperson, Mkhuleko Hlengwa, says they acknowledge the genuine concerns of many South Africans regarding illegal immigration, but these concerns must not be overshadowed by unlawful conduct:
# Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says with the adoption of the 2026/2027 City of Hope Budget, the metro has managed to keep its record 40-billion-rand basic infrastructure investment intact for the next three years. The budget also includes expanded relief to shield lower- and middle-income households. Hill-Lewis says around 130-thousand construction-related jobs will flow from capital investment in the current term of office alone, with 75-percent of infrastructure spending directly benefiting lower-income households:
# Iran’s Foreign Ministry says no negotiation meetings are scheduled with the United States in the coming days. This is despite president Donald Trump stating that Tehran has agreed to further peace talks, with representatives from both countries scheduled to meet in Doha, Qatar, today. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, says Tehran’s current priority is to ensure implementation of the provisions in the memorandum of understanding and to press its demands under the arrangement. He adds that neither country has yet entered the stage of negotiating a final agreement.
# Soccer: Four-time champions Germany have been knocked out of the World Cup after losing on penalties against Paraguay in Boston. The match finished 1-1 after extra time. Kai Havertz, Nick Woltemade, and Jonathan Tah missed their spot-kicks, as Paraguay won the shootout 4-3 and set up a last-16 tie against two-time champions France or Sweden. In Houston, Brazil defeated Japan 2-1 and will play Ivory Coast or Norway in the last 16. Morocco defeated the Netherlands 3-2 on penalties to set up a last-16 showdown with co-hosts Canada in Monterrey.
