# IEC to hand over lists of elected National Assembly and provincial legislature members to Chief Justice

# The Electoral Commission is expected to hand over its lists of elected members of the National Assembly and provincial legislatures to Chief Justice Raymond Zondo tomorrow. The parliamentary list will then be forwarded to the secretary to Parliament in preparation for the National Assembly’s first session, and the provincial lists to the judges president who will preside over the first sessions of the legislatures. The Constitution determines the first sitting of the National Assembly must occur within 14 days after election results are declared.
# Cosatu says it is disappointed by the 0.1-percent decrease in Gross Domestic Product in the first quarter of this year. The manufacturing industry decreased by 1.4-percent in the first quarter, contributing minus 0.2 of a percentage point to the negative GDP growth. Cosatu’s, Zanele Sabela, says the key to growing the economy is accelerating Eskom’s maintenance and generation investments, ensuring that local government is sufficiently resourced and capacitated and that the fight against crime and corruption is accelerated:
# ActionSA in KwaZulu-Natal says it has conducted a thorough assessment of the aftermath of the devastating inclement weather in parts of the province. A severe storm accompanied by heavy rains has claimed the lives of eleven people including in Tongaat. Over one-thousand families have been displaced. ActionSA’s, Halalisani Ndlovu, says they have donated food, water and blankets to those affected, and will continue to provide support and relief:
# Rugby: Glasgow Warriors regard the Stormers’ Springbok flyhalf, Manie Libbok, as the danger man in Saturday’s United Rugby Championship quarterfinal. The hosts describe the World Cup winner as a magician which they are looking to target in the Scottish city. Attacking coach Nigel Carolan says Libbok is one of the best flyhalves in the sport, saying the Stormers don’t function as well when he isn’t performing at his best. Kick-off at Scotstoun is at 8.35 Saturday evening.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-69-cents and the euro at 20-rand-34-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-88-cents and Bitcoin trades at 71-thousand-223-dollars-30-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-337-dollars-4-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 77-dollars-47-cents a barrel.
# And today is World Environment Day under the theme, Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience. Land restoration is a key pillar of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, a rallying call for the protection and revival of ecosystems all around the world. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will host this year’s World Environment Day global celebrations. UN Environment Programme executive director, Inger Andersen, says the climate crisis is placing the world’s ecosystems under assault:
