# ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula says the MK party has invaded ANC space by trying to steal from the movement. Mbalula was speaking on the party’s campaign trail in Ficksburg in the Free State. He says they will continue to fight for the name uMkhonto weSizwe. Mbalula adds they are only defending the ANC against attempted theft and do not intend spending time on other political parties:
EFF leader Julius Malema, meanwhile, says the party wants to protect all Africans and wants peace and stability in the country. He addressed a party manifesto town hall meeting in Lenasia, Johannesburg. Malema says the EFF is at an aggressive phase of talking to all South Africans in all the corners of the country, and they’re leaving no stone unturned:
# Dozens of Russian military instructors have arrived in Niger as part of a new agreement with the country’s junta, which has cut links with the West. State media reports they arrived along with a state-of-the-art air defence system. The instructors will install the system and teach Niger’s army how to use it. The West African country is one several in the Sahel region ruled by military authorities to have recently strengthened ties with Russia.
# Cricket: Laura Wolvaardt’s captain’s knock of 110 gave the South African women seven-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the second one-day international in Kimberley. Wolvaardt shared another 100-run partnership with Marizanne Kapp who was unbeaten on 80. The Proteas scored the winning runs with 14 balls to spare, finishing on 233 for three. Sri Lanka were earlier were bowled out for 229. The third and final game will be played in Potchefstroom on Wednesday after the first match in East London was called off because of bad weather.
# And, Eastern Cape premier Oscar Mabuyane says the provincial government has been at the forefront of renewable energy development in South Africa, with over 36-billion-rand invested in wind farms that are currently generating power. Mabuyane met with the German Special Envoy to South Africa for the Just Energy Transition Partnership, Rainer Baake, tasked with campaigning globally for sustainable and favorable energy generation. The premier says government is committed to keep playing a significant role:
