Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# ActionSA takes credit for the ANC’s loss of its parliamentary majority
# A total of 68 election-related cases were registered in KwaZulu-Natal
# And Donald Trump vows to appeal his conviction
# ActionSA’s president Herman Mashaba attributes the party’s poor election results to the emergence of the MK party, which he says has caused significant challenges for many political parties. Speaking at the results operation centre in Midrand, he takes credit for the ANC’s loss of parliamentary majority and plans to strategise next week for the local government elections, considering the MK factor. He remains optimistic, looking forward to securing a few seats in the National Assembly:
And now we look at preliminary results after 97-percent of the voting districts have been processed a short while ago. It shows the ANC has 40.14-percent of national votes. The DA followed with 21.71-percent while the MK Party was on 14.82-percent. The MK Party is leading in KwaZulu-Natal with 45.29-percent followed by the IFP at 18-percent with the ANC third with 16.99-percent. In Gauteng, the ANC is still in the lead with 34.34-percent and the DA at 27.91-percent. In the Western Cape, the DA is maintaining its majority with 55.27-percent followed by the ANC at 19.48-percent.
Meanwhile, KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, says policing the elections was challenging. Sixty-eight election-related cases were registered in the province leading to 24 suspects being arrested. Three suspects are still in custody while others have been released on bail. Mkhwanazi says they also dealt with more than 900 protest actions:
# Former US president Donald Trump has vowed to appeal against his criminal conviction for falsifying business records, claiming he has done nothing wrong. A New York court convicted him of all 34 counts of falsifying business records in his hush-money criminal trial. Prosecutors accused Trump of taking part in an illegal conspiracy to undermine the integrity of the 2016 presidential election. Trump says the trial was very unfair:
# And finally tennis: Third seed Carlos Alcaraz, who has been nursing an arm injury, is through to the last 16 of the French Open. The Spaniard defeated American Sebastian Korda, 6-4, 7-6, 6-3. Italian Jannik Sinner maintained his perfect start by defeating Russian Pavel Kotov, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. Greek ninth seek Stefanos Tsitsipas beat China’s Zhang Zhizhen in straight sets. In the women’s draw, defending champion Iga Swiatek eased past Czech’s Marie Bouzkova, 6-4, 6-2, in the third round. Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur and Russia’s Anastasia Potapova also won.
