# Barcelona’s Disfrutar restaurant tops the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list for 2024. It has been praised for its combination of brilliantly imaginative dishes, unsurpassed technical mastery and playful presentation. Coming in at number two is Asador Etxebarri of Atxondo, near the Spanish port city of Bilbao. The French capital’s Table by Bruno Verjus is third while Madrid’s Diverxo comes in fourth and Lima’s Maido is fifth, one of three restaurants from Peru to make the list. Cape Town’s La Colombe is ranked 49th on the list.
# University of Venda student, Vhuthu Miranda Tshilengo, is attending an International Student Practice in Dubna, Russia. The three-week programme is designed to attract talented young individuals to the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. It also aims to raise awareness about the opportunities for studying and conducting scientific research. Tshilengo, a Physics Master’s student, is focusing her research project on Radio Astronomy.
# Rhodes University is celebrating its 120th anniversary, referred to as RU120. Former SABC newsreader and cultural icon, Noxolo Grootboom, has been selected as one of its brand ambassadors and faces of RU120. In 2021, the university conferred an honorary degree of Doctor of Letters on Grootboom, for her significant promotion of national pride and culture through her journalistic career. The university says it is only befitting that Grootboom lends her voice to the campaign, seeking to reflect on 120 years of excellence at Rhodes.
# WinterHope, an initiative serving for over 20 years, is back with its annual campaign to provide winter essentials for those in need. The main goal of the campaign Give Hope Give Warmth, is to lend a hand to vulnerable community members responsibly, ensuring they have what they need to stay warm during winter. This includes clothes, food, blankets, and money. Last year, WinterHope donated two-thousand-500 blankets, and 286 full black bags of clothing and provided three-thousand-800 food parcels.
# And finally, road running: A total of 66 Gauteng police members will participate in the Comrades Marathon in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday. The race will begin at the Durban City Hall and finish at the Scottsville Racecourse in Pietermaritzburg, covering 85.91 kilometres. Provincial police commissioner, Tommy Mthomben, says management continues to encourage and implement wellness and fitness programmes, to ensure officials are always fit and mentally sharp to serve and protect citizens:
