# The family of a Pretoria man who was shot in the head employs a private investigator
# Charl Kinnear’s widow says they have not been briefed on IPID’s report
# And: Afrikaans singer Theuns Jordaan dies of cancer at the age of 50

# The family of a Pretoria man who was shot in the head at Muldersdrift in Gauteng this weekend, allegedly by a police member, has opened a case of attempted murder against the local police. An investigator for Specialized Security Services, Cecil Benade, says Len Cloete’s family has appointed him as their private investigator. Cloete is in a coma after he was shot when he allegedly grabbed a gun from another official during an altercation.

# The Independent Police Investigative Directorate is concerned about the continuous leakage of its investigation reports. A report into the circumstances that led to the murder of Cape Town police detective Charl Kinnear was leaked before Ipid could provide feedback to the family. Kinnear was gunned down in his car in front of his home in Bishop Lavis in September last year. His widow, Nicolette, says they still need to be briefed by Ipid on the report:

# The Western Cape government is still trying to solve two environmental challenges on hand. Department of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning spokesperson, James-Brent Styan, says firstly the number of birds dying of bird flu continues to drop with less than 100 dead birds being reported per day at the moment. He says secondly, the outbreak of seals dying and being found on beaches is also ongoing. Styan says the reason for these deaths has not been scientifically established as yet:

Kontaveit finds herself on the verge of a third consecutive title and fifth overall, which would tie world number one Ashleigh Barty for the most this season. She will face Spain’s Garbiñe Muguruza, who defeated compatriot, Paula Badosa 6-3, 6-3.
