# The National Transmission Company South Africa will establish a ring-fenced market surveillance unit to guard against abuse of dominance in the South African Wholesale Electricity Market. The company’s General Manager for Energy Market Services, Andrew Etzinger, says the unit is a regulatory requirement ahead of the market’s planned launch in April 2027 and the Competition Commission could also access market information to identify possible abuse. He emphasised that systems, cybersecurity and other preparations are progressing for the market’s launch.
