# KwaZulu-Natal Police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, has suggested pausing televised soccer matches to display messages on gender-based violence. He raised concern over the high rates of abuse that are unreported and no support provided to victims. Mkhwanazi linked crime to broken families and absent fathers. He added that neglected regions in the province suffer from high crime while authorities focus on reacting to problems rather than preventing them:
