# Higher Education and Training minister Buti Manamela has expressed concern over allegations of grade manipulation and misconduct at the University of Cape Town’s Social Development Department. The claims, raised by a former head of department, include possible racial bias in academic assessments. It is alleged that white students were given better grades. Manamela is set to meet with the university’s leadership to assess actions taken and plans to restore trust. Ministry spokesperson Mandla Tshabalala says an independent inquiry may be launched if governance failures are confirmed.
