Mangaung inmate’s death ruled a murder following inquest

#The Department of Correctional Services has confirmed that the death of inmate Mpho Mkhumbeni at the G4S-run Mangaung Correctional Centre in Bloemfontein is now being investigated as a murder. The 39-year-old died on 12 March after being pepper-sprayed and assaulted during an unauthorised cell raid. Seven officials have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. According to EWN News, the correctional services head, Samuel Thobagale revealed that the raid was linked to 800-rand that went missing from an official’s bag, which was allegedly left in the cell.
