Mamdani projected to win the New York mayor race, while Virginia elects its first woman governor

# Self-described democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani is projected to win the New York City mayoral race. The 34-year-old is up against former governor Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an independent, and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa. If elected, Mamdani would make history as New York’s first Muslim mayor, the first South Asian to hold the office, and one of the youngest mayors elected in modern times. Meanwhile, Democrat Abigail Spanberger has been elected governor of Virginia, becoming the first female governor of the southern state.
