# The East London Magistrates’ Court in KuGompo City in the Eastern Cape has sentenced EFF leader Julius Malema to five years’ direct imprisonment and declared him unfit to possess a firearm. He was convicted on multiple charges, including the discharge of a firearm in a public place without sufficient cause, linked to a 2018 Mdantsane rally. Magistrate Twanet Olivier ruled the act was planned and intentional:
