Speaking during the party’s provincial manifesto event at Motherwell, Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape, Malema argues that institutions should use students’ identification numbers to determine whether parents receive SASSA grants, rather than asking about their employment. He says this approach would help ensure that financial circumstances do not prevent students from accessing higher education:
