# The Mining Affected Communities United in Action, together with several other organisations, say the engagement with Parliament’s portfolio committee on Mineral and Petroleum Resources could open a new chapter for South Africa’s mining communities. During the engagement yesterday, the organisations outlined concerns relating to the socio-economic and environmental consequences of mining operations and closures, corporate accountability, rehabilitation obligations and the impact of corporate disinvestment on mining-affected communities.
