# KwaZulu-Natal premier Thami Ntuli says laws must be enforced to stop people from building in flood line areas. At least 86 people have lost their lives in floods in the Eastern Cape in the past week. Reflecting on the 2022 floods in KwaZulu-Natal that claimed 443 lives, Ntuli said profiteering from illegal developments worsens the risk. He urged urgent action from government, traditional leaders, and stakeholders. He emphasised the need to support municipalities in enforcing bylaws to prevent further tragedies and protect lives:
