# Member of the Mayoral Committee for Transport, Kenny Kunene, says the City of Johannesburg is developing plans to address the impact of illegal mining in parts of the West Rand. Kunene visited Roodepoort following the discovery of sinkholes and illegal mining tunnels beneath roads, shops, and residential areas. He says a multi-disciplinary approach involving the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department, SAPS, and the provincial government is needed. Kunebe says the city is introducing thinner cables and alternative energy systems to protect traffic infrastructure.
