# The Israeli Defence Force launched retaliatory strikes on military targets in western and central Iran this morning. This comes after Tehran launched missiles at Israel in apparent retaliation over attacks on the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, a stronghold of the Iran-allied Hezbollah militant group. Israel’s latest attack comes after US president Donald Trump urged prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu to hold off on retaliating against Iran. Tehran has long stated that any peace deal with the US will depend on a ceasefire also holding in Lebanon.
