Israel gets deadline extension in ICJ genocide case

# Israel has been granted an extra six months to respond to South Africa’s genocide allegations over its actions in Gaza. Originally due by end of July, the new deadline is 12 January 2026. Israel told the International Court of Justice it needs more time to handle evidentiary issues. South Africa opposed the extension, citing insufficient justification and the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. The ICJ’s proceedings continue amid growing global scrutiny.
