IATA says Mozambique tops list of airline funds blockers

# The International Air Transport Association confirms seven of the top ten countries blocking airline fund repatriation are in Africa, with Mozambique now leading. IATA director-general Willie Walsh says airlines face 23-billion-rand globally in blocked revenues, including three-billion-rand trapped in Mozambique. The blockage stems from a foreign currency shortage, particularly US dollars. Walsh warns this delays operations, breaches international agreements, and threatens air connectivity. He confirmed other major offenders including Algeria, Angola, and Zimbabwe, placing strain on airlines’ ability to manage vital costs.
