# Home Affairs minister Leon Schreiber has welcomed the conviction of dismissed official Dawn Pieterson, who was found guilty on nine counts of fraud and two of contravening the Births and Deaths Registration Act. Pieterson, who worked in Calvinia, Northern Cape, defrauded clients by opening funeral policies with their ID numbers and falsely declaring them deceased. Sentencing is set for 26 January next year. Schreiber says this marks the ninth such conviction, reinforcing the department’s anti-corruption and digital transformation agenda.
