# Home Affairs minister Leon Schreiber has extended the Zimbabwe Exemption Permit until 28 May 2027, benefiting around 180-thousand holders in South Africa. The extension protects holders from deportation, allows entry and exit under conditions, and simplifies visa applications. This follows a 2023 High Court ruling declaring the earlier permit termination unlawful. Consultations with permit holders and stakeholders will continue to determine the programme’s long-term future, ensuring a fair and lawful immigration process.
