# Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs minister, Velenkosini Hlabisa, has launched the Safe Customary Initiation Awareness Campaign in Bloemfontein. Under the theme “Mabaye Bephila, Babuye Bephila,” the campaign calls for zero deaths this winter season. This follows 90 fatalities last year. The minister emphasised that initiation must be a journey to life, not death, as thousands of boys prepare for this rite of passage mid June:
