Health Department launch World Breastfeeding Week Campaign in Pretoria

# The Department of Health will mark World Breastfeeding Week today in Pretoria, to raise awareness about the lifelong benefits of exclusive breastfeeding. The campaign aims to reverse South Africa’s declining breastfeeding rates down from 32-percent in 2016 to 22-percent in 2024. Efforts focus on building support structures that promote infant health, maternal well-being, and environmental sustainability. Under the theme ‘Prioritise Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems,’ the launch is in partnership with the World Health Organisation and the United Nations Children’s Fund, amongst others.
