# The General Industries Workers Union of South Africa will today make submissions to the South African Human Rights Commission’s national inquiry into artisanal mining and Operation Vala Umgodi in Johannesburg. The inquiry is, amongst other things, considering the impact of artisanal mining/illegal mining on the human rights of the community of Stilfontein, and the policy gaps and framework of artisanal mining. GIWUSA’s president, Mametlwe Sebei, says they demand the nationalisation of the mining industry:
