Gauteng schools owe municipalities nearly R584 Million

# Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Lebogang Maile says schools in the province owe municipalities more than 583-million-rand in unpaid accounts older than 60 days. Maile told a media briefing this morning the City of Johannesburg is owed the highest amount at over 390-million-rand. Schools also owe Eskom more than six-million-rand. He says some schools were under-billed before receiving higher charges after meter readings, while inflation and rising municipal tariffs have placed additional pressure on school budgets and debt management.
