# Electricity minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has welcomed the appointment of former Eskom chief nuclear officer, Riedewaan Bakardien, as CEO at the National Radioactive Waste Disposal Institute on 1 April. With over 20 years in the nuclear sector, Bakardien recently served as senior vice president at Ontario Power Generation in Canada. Ramokgopa hailed Bakardien’s expertise in waste management and compliance. Cabinet approved his role pending security clearance and qualification verification.
