# The World Health Organisation says the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Ituri province is not only the epicentre of the deadly Ebola outbreak, but also one of the areas hardest hit by acute hunger. According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification’s latest data, across Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, and Tanganyika, nearly ten million people are facing hunger. This is driven by conflict, economic pressures, limited access to essential services and weakened infrastructure. The WHO says people weakened by hunger are far more vulnerable to infections.
