Cosatu warns declining worker activism threatens union sustainability

# COSATU general secretary Solly Phetoe has warned that declining worker activism is placing growing financial pressure on the federation and threatening trade union sustainability. Presenting the organisational report at COSATU’s 15th reconvened National Congress in Kempton Park, Phetoe said the strain was weakening unions’ ability to defend workers and collective bargaining. He called for urgent action to rebuild worker unity, strengthen organisational discipline, deepen political education and accelerate organisational renewal, to effectively represent workers.
