China to invest R25-billion in Tanzania-Zambia rail line upgrade

# China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation will invest over 25-billion-rand to upgrade the Tanzania-Zambia rail line, originally built with Chinese aid in the 1970s. The one-thousand-860-kilometre line, crucial for transporting copper from Zambia to Tanzania’s main port, has deteriorated over the years. Negotiations are ongoing for a 30-year concession. The project marks the largest restoration effort since the rail’s construction, following an agreement between China, Tanzania, and Zambia last year.
