# Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis launched his fourth pledge as part of the DA’s local government election campaign, to keep essential services reliable and affordable. He launched the pledge in Rocklands, Mitchell’s Plain, today. Hill-Lewis says in the last term the city quadrupled sewer pipe replacement to 100-kilometres a year and doubled fresh-water pipe replacement to 50-kilometres a year. He says the city will ramp up purchases of independent power from 200 to 700 megawatts, which is cheaper than Eskom’s.
