Basic Education Committee raises concerns over language policy in Free State schools

# Parliament Portfolio Committee on Education chairperson Joy Maimela has criticised the Afrikaans and English language policy in some Free State schools for discriminating against African languages. During visits to Lejweleputswa schools, she also highlighted a shortage of black African teachers at Orion Special, infrastructure challenges, vandalism, drug abuse, and unreliable scholar transport. The committee has requested comprehensive reports from the Department of Education and the municipality to address language, recruitment, and infrastructure issues.
