# The ANC is commemorating 47-years since the execution of anti-apartheid activist, Solomon Mahlangu, an uMkhonto weSizwe combatant. The family will lead the 52-steps that the then 23-year-old took towards his execution in 1979 at the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Center. His execution was under the common purpose doctrine following the 1977 confrontation between the South African Police and MK operatives in Goch Street, Johannesburg. The ANC says the occasion honors his legacy and reaffirms its commitment to advancing freedom, justice and equality.
