# The Afrika Mayibuye Movement is defending its decision to field former cash-in-transit offender Themba “SkeemGP” Nzimande as its mayoral candidate for the City of Ekurhuleni. The announcement has sparked strong public backlash. National spokesperson Sidney Baloyi says the party was guided by principles of restorative justice and the belief that people can change. He says Nzimande has acknowledged his past, confronted his actions and circumstances, and has since transformed his life. Baloyi says his past should not define his future.
