# AfriForum has filed an urgent application to prevent the City of Tshwane from continuing to charge the controversial city cleansing levy on residents. In June, the High Court in Pretoria declared the levy illegal, with the metro’s application for leave to appeal also dismissed. However, Tshwane petitioned the Supreme Court of Appeal in September, resulting in the suspension of the initial court order.
