# The South African National Defence Union says claims by Parliament’s joint standing committee on Defence co-chairperson Anthony Phala that conditions at Fort Ikapa, a military base in Goodwood, Cape Town, were satisfactory, are factually incorrect. The union says troops reported issues such as leaking roofs, lack of hot water and insect infestations during a parliamentary visit. The union’s Pikkie Greeff argues the complaints were real and were backed up when soldiers were later moved and the building was set for repairs.
