# Athletics: UK Athletics has been fined 7.67-million-rand for the death of Paralympian Abdullah Hayayei. The 36-year-old shot-putter died after a metal throwing cage fell on his head during training in London in 2017. He was preparing for the World Para-athletics Championships. In February, UK Athletics pleaded guilty to corporate manslaughter. UKA’s former head of sport, Keith Davies, also pleaded guilty to a health and safety charge and was sentenced to 175 hours of unpaid community work. Judge Richard Marks described Hayayei’s death as wholly avoidable.
