# A protected inmate from Goodwood Prison was expected to testify in the high-profile trial of alleged underworld figure Nafiz Modack in the High Court in the Western Cape today. The witness reportedly told the Independent Police Investigative Directorate that anti-gang unit detective Charl Kinnear was allegedly killed in 2020 by a hitman linked to the 28s gang. Modack and 14 co-accused face more than 120 charges, including murder, racketeering, fraud and money laundering. IPID confirmed investigations into possible police involvement in Kinnear’s murder are continuing.
