Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The MK Party gives formal notice of intention to file a motion of no confidence against president Cyril Ramaphosa
# The Weather Service issues an Orange level 8 warning for disruptive rainfall in the Western Cape from today
# And rugby: Victory for the Bulls against the struggling Zebre Parma, with Lions tamed in Dublin
# The MK Party has written to the National Assembly Speaker, Thoko Didiza, and moved to file a motion of no confidence in the current sitting president Cyril Ramaphosa, following the Constitutional Court judgement on Phala Phala matter. Spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela says the party has requested that the motion be conducted by secret ballot. He says this is to safeguard both the independence and integrity of Members’ votes and to ensure they are able to exercise their responsibilities freely and effectively.
# The South African Weather Service has issued an Orange level 8 warning for disruptive rainfall in the Western Cape from today until Tuesday. Weather forecaster, Lehlohonolo Thobela says following close on the heels of a prolonged period of adverse weather conditions associated with a cut-off low weather system, a strong cold front is expected to make landfall over the Western Cape this afternoon before progressing eastwards along the southern parts of the country:
Meanwhile, the Mobility Department in the province is appealing to all road users to exercise extra caution during this period and to avoid unnecessary travel where possible. The provincial Traffic Management spokesperson, Maxine Bezuidenhout, says strong winds can also affect vehicle control, and drivers must remain alert at all times. She says pedestrians should ensure visibility by wearing bright or reflective clothing:
# The Road Traffic Management Corporation has confirmed that South Africa’s learner’s licence tests pass rate had dropped from 68-perfect to 40-percent since the rollout of the computerised learner’s licence testing system across the country. Spokesperson Simon Zwane told News24 the system selects random questions from its database for each learner. He says the test is still split into the three sections as before, except that there are now 64 questions drawn from a database of around one-thousand-200 questions.
# Rugby: The Bulls powered to a 54-19 win over Italian strugglers Zebre Parma in their United Rugby Championship match at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday. With the victory, they have set themselves up for a crack at a top four spot next weekend in the final league fixture against Benetton. The Bulls scored a total of eight tries by Willie le Roux, Canan Moodie, Cheswill Jooste, Sergeal Petersen, Ruan Vermaak, Cameron Hanekom, Harold Vorster, and Jeandre Rudolph. Willie le Roux converted seven of the tries. Zebre Parma’s 19 points were made up of three tries and a conversion.
And in more rugby news, despite being brave and gutsy, the Lions just didn’t have enough to keep them in the hunt for a top four spot in the Championship. They went down 31-7 to Leinster in Dublin on Saturday, with Leinster creating three quick tries in the last 10 minutes of the game. The Lions have dropped to fifth on the log after the game. Also on Saturday night, Connacht beat Munster 26-7. Munster are now sixth on the log and will next weekend play against the Lions in the last round of the competition before the playoffs.
